Mrs. Mary Kate “Peggy” Hendrix Hancock Smith, age 87, entered into rest on Saturday, July 6, 2019. Funeral Services will be 12:00 PM Monday, July 8, 2019 from the Chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home by Rev. Dennis Wallace and Rev. Tim Wright with burial to follow in the Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will greet friends from 11:00 – 12:00 PM Monday prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mrs. Smith was born October 20, 1931 in Pageland, SC a daughter of the late Palmer and Ethel Evans Hendrix. She was a retired employee of Chesterfield County School District and was a devoted mother and grandmother. A lady blessed with many talents, Peggy enjoyed painting, sewing, and cooking for her family and friends.
In addition to her parents, Peggy was also preceded in death by 2 husbands, Harris Hancock and Marion S. Smith; son, Jeffrey Harris Hancock, Sr.; granddaughter, Vannessa Leigh Hancock; brothers, Harry Hendrix and Tommy Hendrix; and sister, Billy Jean Hendrix Ussery.
Survivors include her children, Rex Allen (Arlene) Hancock of Patrick, SC, Vann Warren Hancock of Myrtle Beach, SC, Karl Eric (Connie) Hancock of Cheraw, SC, and daughter of the heart, Leonora (Dennis) Stallings of Cheraw, SC; grandchildren, Heather H. (Michael) Tadlock of Bennettsville, SC, Tressa Hancock of Patrick, SC, Jeffrey “Jay” Harris Hancock, Jr. of Cheraw, SC, Samantha Hancock of Cheraw, SC, Vannessa H. (Daniel) Oldland of Goose Creek, SC, Amber Hancock of Florence, SC, and John L. “Ethan” Melton, IV of Cheraw, SC; great grandchildren, Jace Michael Tadlock, Jena Claire Tadlock, and Jacob Lloyd Oldland; sisters, Evelyn Lewis of Pageland, SC, Lois Brewer of Spartanburg, SC, and Betty Ingram of Jefferson, SC; brothers, Anthony (Paulette) Hendrix of Kershaw, SC, Rick (Bonnie) Hendrix, and Bobby (Sylvia) Hendrix both of Pageland, SC; sister-in-law, Margie Hendrix of Pageland, SC; brother-in-law, Tommy Ussery of Rockingham, NC and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff of Cheraw Healthcare and McLeod Hospice for the love and care shown to Mrs. Smith.
