Mary Leona Morris

Cheraw, SC

          Mrs. Mary Leona Morris, age 89, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 at Cheraw Healthcare where she had been a resident for the last 3 years. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Thursday, August 25, 2022 at Westfield Creek Baptist Church by Pastor Jason Pope and Pastor Doug Anderson with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends from 1:00 – 2:00 PM prior to the service in the sanctuary of the church.

          At the request of the family, we ask that all guests and family members attending services to please bring and wear a mask.

          Mrs. Morris was born April 13, 1933 a daughter of the late Archie Clyde Brock and Nancy Jane Moore Brock of Cheraw, SC. Leona was a lifelong member of Westfield Creek Baptist Church and was one of the oldest living members. Always on Mother’s Day she would be so proud to tell the church how many children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren she had. She never hesitated to tell you the exact number. She served her church in many different positions but always loved serving in the nursery along with Nancy Nelson and made sure her babies had enough “animal cookies” on hand for each church service. Mary Leona retired from Weller Industries in Cheraw, SC with over 20 years of service.

          Mrs. Morris was preceded in death by her parents listed above; husband, Jimmy “J.W.” Morris; son, Junior Morris; daughter-in-law, Kathy Eddins Morris; sisters, Lola Mae Brock Lee of Cheraw, SC, Elizabeth Pierce of Rockingham, NC; brother, Thomas Howard Brock of Cheraw, SC; and grandsons, Justin Parker and James Bogan.

          Surviving to cherish her memories are her children, Sheila Snuggs (Lee) of Norwood, NC, Sammy Morris (Cindy) of Chesterfield, SC, Teresa Huntley of Patrick, SC, Clyde Morris of Cornelius, NC, Charles Hancock of Hartsville, SC, Carl Gibson (Carol Ann) of Wadesboro, NC, Jerry (Margaret) Gibson of Lancaster, SC, and Mickey Gibson of Lancaster, SC. Also surviving are her brothers, Calvin Brock (Louise) of Cheraw, SC, John Edward Brock (Dianne) of Cheraw, SC; sister, Diane Allen (Boggan) of Ansonville, NC; sister-in-law, Evelyn Brock of Cheraw, SC; grandchildren, Jessica, Lee, Clint, Amanda, Mindy, Brendan, Hannah, Whitney, Rosie, Christian, Melissa, Rena, Carly, and Lizzie; numerous great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

          Memorials may be made to Westfield Creek Baptist Church, 316 Westfield Church Rd, Cheraw, SC 29520 or to a charity of one’s choice.
