HISTORY: Mrs. Rivers was born November 20, 1909 in Chesterfield County, SC a daughter of the late Baxter and Janie Purvis Gardner. She was a graduate of Chesterfield High School, where she was Valedictorian, Class of 1926. Mrs. Rivers was a lifelong and the oldest member of Shiloh United Methodist Church. She was a member of UMW and the Adult Ladies Sunday School Class. Lua was awarded the Mother of the Year award in 1989. She was the spiritual leader and faithful prayer warrior for the entire Rivers family. Mrs. Rivers was married to the late John Weldon Rivers and was also preceded in death by 2 daughters, Dorothy Lou Davis, and Melba Irene Brock; 1 grandson, Weldon Rivers; and 1 great grandson, Elisha Bryant.
