HISTORY: Mr. Gainey was born September 23, 1924 in Patrick, SC a son of the late Murray and Rosa Lee Roscoe Gainey. He was a retired carpenter with Jim Walter's Homes. Mr. Gainey was a lifelong faithful member of Brown Springs Baptist Church, where he served as former Deacon, Chairman of Deacons, and was instrumental in building the Church Parsonage. In addition to his parents, Melvin was preceded in death by his wife, Jewel Tyner Gainey; 1 son, David Eugene Gainey; a grandson, Justin Gandy; 2 brothers, J.C. Gainey, and Murray "Junior" Gainey; and by his sister, Carolyn - Rae Gainey.

3 Daughters: Linda (Charles) Griggs of Patrick, SC, Doris (Tim) Gandy of Hartsville, SC, and Jackie (Pee Wee) Edwards of Patrick, SC
4 Grandchildren: Chuck Griggs, Brian Gandy, Chad Edwards, and Todd Edwards
2 Great Grandchildren: Breanna Griggs and Kylie Edwards
