Mr. Michael Eugene “Gene” Watson, Sr., age 82, entered into rest on Monday, April 3, 2023 at his home with his loving family by his side. A Celebration of Life Service will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, April 5, 2023 from the Chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home by Pastor Allen Usher. The family will greet friends following the service at the funeral home.
Mr. Watson was born May 17, 1940 in Chesterfield, South Carolina a son of the late Clyde and Sally Sowell Watson. He was a former employee of INA Bearing and enjoyed a successful career as a commercial fisherman out of Murrells Inlet aboard the F/V Beth Anne. Mr. Watson would take his passion for deep sea fishing to establish a local restaurant, Watson Seafood. In addition to fishing, Gene was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and attending the local flea market. His favorite pastimes were watching old westerns, military history and NASCAR. Gene was a veteran of the SCANG. He served as scoutmaster of local Boy Scout Troop 650 for many years. Under his leadership, several of his scouts achieved the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Watson was also preceded in death by his brother, Clyde “Nicky” Watson.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Jewell Harpe Watson of the home; children, Michael E (Tammy) Watson of Marion, SC and Thomas V (Vandy Teal) Watson of Chesterfield, SC; grandchildren, Dallas (Allison) Watson, Sgt Troy (Emily) Watson (US ARMY), Rachel Watson and Brock Watson.
In keeping with Mr. Watsons passion for fishing. The family has requested that remembrances be made in the form of taking a kid or elderly person fishing.
