Mr. Mitchell Huey Smith, age 81, entered into rest on Tuesday, April 11, 2017. Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Saturday, April 15, 2017 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Joey Polson and Brent Taylor with burial to follow in the Palmetto Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Friday April 14, 2017 at the funeral home.

Mr. Smith was born August 27, 1935 in Chesterfield County, SC, a son of the late Lester Eugene and Cleo Coker Smith. He was a car dealer for over 60 years and owned Mitchell’s Auto Sales of Chesterfield. Mr. Smith was an Army Veteran. Mr. Smith also sold insurance for 7 years. He was a loyal member of Palmetto Baptist Church. Mitchell was also a member of the Woodmen of the World Lodge #516. Mitchell loved being around people, and he never met a stranger.

In addition to his parents, Mitchell was preceded in death by his brothers-in-law; John Poteat, Vernon Wilkerson, Owen Wilkerson, and Sidberry Cassidy; Sisters-in-law; Hazel Cassidy, Ivy Campbell, Annie Sue (Donald) Gooden, and Catherine Davis.

Survivors include his wife, Vennie Wilkerson Smith of the home; Son, Greg Smith of Chesterfield, SC; Step Children, Betty Jo (Jeff ) Starnes of Patrick SC, Charles (Patty Ann) Gooden of Patrick SC; Grandchild; Brandy Smith; Step-Grandchildren,Chad Starnes, Scotty (Amber) Starnes, Paige (Mitch) Gooden, Jordan Gooden, Katie Gooden; Step-Great Grandchildren, Mason Starnes, Tanner Starnes, Tyler Starnes, Tinsley Gooden, and Bianca Gooden; Brother, Caroll (Joyce) Smith of Chesterfield; Sister, Patricia Poteat of Inman, SC; Sister-In-Law, Linda (Ed) Gooden of Patrick, Edith Wilkerson of Cheraw; Brother-in-Law, Larry Campbell of Patrick, and James Davis of Cheraw; also numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved fur baby, Maggie Smith of the home.
