MSGT John L. Allen (USAF RET), age 91, entered into rest on Wednesday, July 20, 2022. Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Sunday, July 24, 2022 from the Chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home by Reverend Wayne Hodge. The burial with full military honors will follow in the White Oak Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 2:00 – 3:00 PM Sunday prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at the home of his son, 4582 Byrd Road, Society Hill, SC.

Mr. Allen was born February 21, 1931 in Ruby, SC a son of the late Lemuel Poovey and Cora Hancock Allen. He was a retired Master Sergeant of the U.S. Air Force serving in both the Korean War and Vietnam War. Over his 20-year career in the military, Mr. Allen was the recipient of the Korean Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal. Following his military career, Mr. Allen retired from A.O. Smith Water Heaters in McBee, SC. He enjoyed raising horses and hound dogs.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Allen was also preceded in death by his wife, Yvonne Allen; sister, Helen Allen; and 1 niece, Lucy.

Survivors include his son, Michael W. (Debbie) Allen of Society Hill, SC and their daughter, StellaGrace; daughter, Deborah L. (Jeff) Bledsoe of Horse Shoe, NC and their children, Justin, and Tierney; great granddaughter, Serafina; sister, Verdie E. Smith of Hartsville, SC; companion of 38 years, Lena “Bill” Tolson of Patrick, SC, and her son, Leverne (Bonnie) Tolson of Patrick, SC; grandchildren of the heart, Eric Tolson, and Jill (Brandon) Edwards; and great grandchildren of the heart, Ace, Parker, and Addy; sister-in-law, Mary C. Freeman of Cheraw, SC; nieces, Barbara Ann, and Sharon.
