DECEASED: Mrs. Myrtle Mae Redfern, age 96, formerly of Mt. Croghan, SC died August 29, 2012 in Alington, TX, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Mickey Spencer.
MEMORIAL SERVICE: 11:00 AM, Saturday, October 6, 2012 at Mt. Croghan United Methodist Church, Mt. Croghan, SC
INTERMENT: will follow in the Church Cemetery
VISITATION: the family will receive family and friends immediately following the services in the Mt. Croghan Baptist Church Fellowship Hall
HISTORY: Mrs. Redfern was born in Ringgold, VA, on July 9, 1916, to William Thomas and Edna Chaney Marshall. Myrtle was orphaned at the age of nine when both of her parents died form the Spanish flu, leaving behind eight children. For a time, she lived with relatives and then went to live at the Hughes Memorial School, a private orphanage, in Danville, VA, with her younger sister and youngest brother. She lived there until she graduated from high school and moved to Raleigh, NC. She married George Alexander Redfern of Mt. Croghan, SC, on August 23, 1945. They were married until George's death in October of 1995. In 1998 Myrtle moved to Southern Pines, NC, to be near her son, Sandy Redfern and his wife Dana. In 2003, she moved to Arlington, TX. A more loving, gracious, kind, and considerate lady would be difficult to find. She always brightened the life of anyone who was around her and made them thankful that they had the privilege of knowing her. She will truly be missed.
SURVIVORS: She is survived by her brother, Irvin G. Marshall of Clifton Park, NY; her son, Sandy (Dana) Redfern of Southern Pines, NC and daughter,Gail (Mickey) Spencer of Arlington, TX; grandson, Michael Redfern Spencer; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
