Reverend Taylor was born September 15, 1952 in Lancaster, SC a son of Margaret Jo Arant Taylor and the late Hugh Leslie Taylor, Jr. He was a graduate of Buford High School and earned his bachelor’s degree from Winthrop University. He was born again on January 13, 1980 and became a new man in Christ. As he continued to mature in the Lord, Bro. Doug accepted the call into the gospel ministry in 1985, and devoted his life to sharing the gospel to EVERYONE he came in contact with.
His first pastorate was in 1986 when he was called to White Plains Baptist Church of Jefferson. Under the divine leading of the Lord he founded Living Faith Baptist Church of Jefferson where he faithfully served the past 31 years. His ministry was not contained to just the church but to the neighboring communities and everyone God brought in his path. His life’s passion was obeying Proverbs 11:30 and telling others of the Grace of God.
No matter the circumstances “Preacher Doug” always had a smile and had the ability to make others laugh. Whether addressed as Preacher, Neighbor, Husband, Father, or Paw-Paw, you knew that he was a true friend who genuinely cared.
Survivors include his devoted wife of 44 years, Rhnae J. Taylor of the home; 2 sons, Brent (Brooke) Taylor of Chesterfield, SC, and Tim Taylor of Lancaster, SC; 2 granddaughters, Anna Belle Taylor and Ava Brooke Taylor; mother, Margaret Jo Taylor of Lancaster, SC; brother, Rev. Mike (Phyllis) Taylor of Rockwell, NC; sister, Cathy (Ricky) Stogner of Lancaster, SC; mother-in-law, Rebecca Jenkins of Cheraw, SC; also nieces, nephews, and his beloved church family.
The family would like to thank all the many pastors and preacher friends who have encouraged Bro. Doug and his family throughout the years. He had a special place in his heart for young preachers. It was his heart’s desire that he be remembered as a man who tried to win souls.
