Chesterfield, SC — Mrs. Peggy Belk Griggs Redfearn, age 90, peacefully entered into rest on Monday, October 28, 2024. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, October 31, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Chesterfield Cemetery, officiated by Pastor Alisha Hansen. Following the service, the family invites friends to greet them at the cemetery.


Born on May 16, 1934, in Ruby, SC, Mrs. Redfearn was the daughter of the late Thomas George "Tom" Griggs and Bonnie Belk Griggs. She was a proud graduate of Ruby High School, where she showcased her athletic talent as a standout left-handed basketball player. Mrs. Redfearn continued her education and graduated from Limestone College.


A dedicated homemaker, she actively contributed to her community as a den mother for the Boy Scouts and a troop leader for the Girl Scouts over many years. Mrs. Redfearn was a faithful member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, where she served as Trustee and participated in various roles throughout her lifetime.


In her leisure time, Peggy was an avid reader and enjoyed cross-stitching, needlepoint, and gardening in her greenhouse. She will be remembered as a gracious Southern lady with a wonderful sense of humor.


Mrs. Redfearn was preceded in death by her husband, James Inglis “Jimmy” Redfearn; her son, James Mark Redfearn; and her brothers, Michael J. “Mike” Griggs and Stuart Griggs.


She is survived by her daughter, Sara Elaine Redfearn, and son-in-law Greg Butts of Mt. Pleasant, SC; her brother, Tommy Lynn Griggs, and sister-in-law Sybil of Virginia Beach, VA; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, including her special cousin, Lindy Watson, of Chesterfield, SC. Additionally, she leaves behind cherished friends Billy and Connie Spencer of Chesterfield, SC, and her pastor and friend, Alisha Hansen.


In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Chesterfield Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 388, Chesterfield, SC 29709, or to the Epworth Children’s Home, 2900 Millwood Ave, Columbia, SC 29205.
