Mrs. Peggy Thompson Melton, age 80, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 29, 2022 with her family by her side. Graveside services will be 4:00 PM Saturday, December 31, 2022 at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery by Pastor Curtis Laney with the eulogy being delivered by, Renee Alford. The family will receive friends from 3:00 – 3:50 PM prior to the service in the sanctuary of Bethel Baptist Church.
Mrs. Melton was born March 2, 1942 in Kershaw, SC a daughter of the late Henry and Gladys Faile Thompson. She retired from Union Memorial Hospital after 21 years of dedicated service as a C.N.A. Peggy was a faithful member of Bethel Baptist Church for over 65 years. Over the years, her service to the Lord included Sunday school teacher, Benevolence Committee Chairman, choir member, and was instrumental in founding the “Dinner Club” of Bethel Baptist Church. A devoted wife and mother, Peggy enjoyed quilting, gardening, cooking, and most of all, being “Me-Maw” to her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Melton was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 51 years, Johnny Reece Melton; brothers, Ira L. “Buster” Thompson, Henry “Dobber” Thompson, Jr., brother, Glenn Johnson; and sister, Phyllis Bach.
Survivors include her children, Diane (Ralph) Price of Jefferson, SC, and Reece (Christi) Melton of Lancaster, SC; grandchildren, Josh (Rebekah) Price, Carmin (Andrew) Currie, Hannah (David) Sponsler, Justin Melton, and Brittany Melton; great grandchildren, Tyler, Logan, Caden, Tegan, Baylor, Bella, and Jennings Reece; brother, Dennis (Darlene) Thompson of Lancaster, SC; sister, Margaret Simpson of Jefferson, SC; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the ministry that Peggy helped to organize and prepared meals for each week for the senior saints of the church and community, Bethel Baptist Church, “Dinner Club,” 11078 Hwy. 151, Jefferson, SC 29718.
