Mrs. Penelope “Penny” Beck Parker, 62, of Cheraw, South Carolina, passed away in her home on December 5, 2022 from NASH liver disease as a secondary illness brought on by a car accident in 2014. Funeral services will be 4:00 PM Friday, December 9, 2022 at Brock’s Mill Baptist Church by Reverend Ladell Humphries with burial to follow in the church cemetery officiated by Reverend Jamie Gulledge. The family will greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Thursday, December 8, 2022 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home.
Penny was born in Hartsville, South Carolina on October 8, 1960 to Dorothy and Ed Beck. She graduated from Hartsville High School in 1977, and went on to study nursing and graduated from the Medical University of South Carolina with her BSN in 1985.
Upon graduating with her BSN she began working at Byerly Hospital as a MedSurg nurse beginning her 38 year long career as a nurse.
Penny met her husband, Dennis, in August of 1982 during a Chemistry Lab at Francis Marion College. In the beginning they did not see eye-to-eye but as the year went by, they eventually fell in love and the last day of the semester, May 3, 1983 they went on their first date and were married May 26, 1984. They have two children, Taylor and Jacob. One of her happiest moments.
Penny loved to read, watch Downton Abbey, sing, and be with her beloved dog, Casey. She was a big believer of doing the right thing even if it wasn’t the easiest thing and loved to help others.
Penny was preceded in death by her mother Dorothy Beck, her sister Patricia “Patty” Beck Morris, her father-in-law Lloyd Parker Sr. Her Mother-in-law Doris Parker. And her grandparents Leroy and Annie Lou Strickland and William and Edith Beck. She is survived by her husband Dennis, her daughter Taylor, her son Jacob. Her brother and sister-in-law Eddie and Vickie Beck her brother-in-law and sister-in-law Lloyd “Dink” and Susan Parker and her nieces Morgan Sullivan and Paula St.Claire; and nephew, Al Parker.
In lieu of flowers, Penny requested before her death that donations be made to St.Jude’s Children’s Hospital or families in need this holiday season.
