Philip was born July 30, 1941 in Chesterfield, SC a son of the late Ernest Blease and Geneva Phillips Stroud. After graduating from Chesterfield High School, Philip spent 25 years in the insurance industry as an Agent Staff Manager and Field Auditor with ING (formerly known as Life of Georgia). In 2005, he began working for FEMA and in 2006 he achieved the FEMA designation of CFM, Certified Flood Plan Manager. Philip truly enjoyed his entire career in management and was very proud of his accomplishments, particularly his contributions with FEMA. He developed many wonderful relationships with lots of great people.
Philip enjoyed high level “hobby” farming. His passion was growing watermelons and tomatoes. He also equally enjoyed his deep and personal relationships within his many circle of friends. His many friendships, some that have existed for most of his life, were deeply important to him. However the most important thing to Philip was family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, son and uncle. Philip or “Gan-dad” was blessed with a remarkable bond with his great grandson, Walt. Walt was one of the greatest joys of his life.
In addition to his parents, Philip was also preceded in death by his wife Dianne Sellers Stroud, and by 3 sisters, Jerrel Stroud, Mary “Monkey” Entzminger, and by Sandy McMorris.
Survivors include his daughters, Marcia “Bitsy” S. McLaughlin of Hartsville, SC, and Andrea “Andi” Stroud of Atlanta, GA; 2 granddaughters, Jordan (Zach) James of Hartsville, SC, and Meagan McLaughlin of Atlanta, GA; 1 great grandson, Zachary Walter “Walt” James, Jr. of Hartsville, SC; 4 sisters, Carolyn Marlowe of Columbia, SC, Polly Rivers of Indian Trail, NC, Beverly “Cookie” Russell of Longs, SC, and Betty Ann Stroud of Murrells Inlet, SC.
