This obituary is being posted as a courtesy to the Crawley family and to Mr. Crawley's sister, Patricia "Pat" Stancil of Ruby, SC, who is a dear friend to our community. Ralph Samuel “Smokey” Crawley, 85, husband of the late Sue Crawley, died Sunday, November 17, 2019.
Born in Ruby, SC, he was a son of the late Levi and Kate Nicholson Crawley.
Mr. Crawley served his country as a member of the U.S. Army. He was the owner of Carter and Crawley Inc. and was a member of First Baptist Church – Mauldin where he was a former Sunday School teacher and served on numerous committees. Ralph was a charter member of the Mauldin Rotary Club for 39 years, served on the Mauldin Zoning Board, and was instrumental in raising the necessary funds for the Jack Greer Library in Mauldin. He was also a member of the Foothills Antique Power Assoc. and enjoyed cooking BBQ for his family and various community organizations.
He is survived by his daughter, Rachel Crawley-McCanless and husband, Tom, of Acworth, GA; son, R. Stan Crawley and wife, June, of Mauldin; grandchildren, Emily Parmelee (Shawn), Jacob McCanless, Lauren McCanless, Lindsey Crawley, Kate Darling (Matt), and Ryan Crawley (Tawnya); great-grandchildren, Brody Darling, Levi Darling, Riley Crawley, Rowan Crawley, and Gray Crawley; and his sister, Patricia Stancil.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Cheria Goodman; and two brothers, Gerald Crawley, and Tommy Crawley.
A visitation will be held Thursday, November 21, 2019 from 12 noon until 1:15 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Southeast followed by the funeral service at 1:30 p.m. in the Chapel. Burial will be in Greenville Memorial Gardens.
