Rev. Bowling C. "Bo" Yates, III

MONROE, N.C. – The Rev. Bowling C. “Bo” Yates III entered the church triumphant Tuesday, March 6. A memorial service in witness to the resurrection of Jesus Christ will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, at White Oak Presbyterian Church, located at 5386 Angelus Road near Ruby, SC. The family will greet friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall.

A son of the late of B.C. Yates Jr. and Elizabeth Abbott Yates, Bo was a native of Marietta, Ga. He graduated from Georgia State University and Columbia Theological Seminary and was an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). Affectionately known as “Preacher Bo,” he served many churches throughout the southeast in his ministry, including White Oak and Ruby.

Bo loved the Lord, his family and friends, and his fur baby, Cleo. He was an avid railroad and amateur radio fan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Rebecca M. Yates, and a sister Elizabeth Y. Davis.

Survivors include his wife, the Rev. Joan Starnes Yates of the home; a daughter, Julia Yates Rogers of Myrtle Beach; and three sisters, Marsha Y. Abbey and Joel Y. Abbott, both of Floral City, Fla., and Julia Y. Maloney of Marietta.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Thornwell Home for Children, 302 South Broad St., Clinton, SC 29325.
