Reverend David E. Smith, Jr., age 67, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, October 22, 2020. Funeral Services will be 4:00 PM Monday, October 26, 2020 from the Chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home by Dr. Steve West, Rev. Julian Cato, and Brent Taylor with burial to follow in the Mt. Croghan Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM Sunday, October 25, 2020 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home.

Due to the continued COVID-19 restrictions, we ask that you practice social distancing at all times. The family would like for all attending the service to please wear a face covering.

Reverend Smith was born September 10, 1953 in Wadesboro, NC a son of the late David E. Smith, Sr. and Esther Rae Gaddy Smith. He was a 1971 graduate of John T. Hoggard High School in Wilmington, NC, and went on to attain his B.A. Degree from UNC Wilmington. Between the years of 1977 – 1997 David was a professional golf instructor and met and mentored many young PGA players. In 2001, he accepted the call into the Gospel Ministry and attended Fruitland Baptist Bible College where he earned an Associates Degree in Religious Studies.

Reverend Smith served as the Interim Pastor of Patrick Baptist Church and accepted the call as Pastor of Mt. Croghan Baptist Church in 2011. God used him greatly in his ministry as Chaplain of the Work Camp at Chesterfield County Detention Center for over 17 years. A humble servant of the Lord, Bro. David always took time to encourage those who needed a friend.

In addition to his parents, Rev. Smith was also preceded in death by his brother, John Manley Smith.

Survivors include his daughter, Rachel Elizabeth Smith; numerous cousins including special cousin, Gale Creech of Chesterfield, SC; and numerous friends.
