Reverend Aldridge was born May 31, 1942 in Monroe, NC a son of the late Mace and Leila Mangum Aldridge. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran who loved his country. Following his military career, God began working in his heart, and in the fall of 1974, at the age of 32, God convicted his heart and gloriously saved him. From that moment on, he dedicated his entire life to serving his Lord and Savior.
Shortly after the Lord saved him, Bro. James felt God’s call on his life to preach his word. He and his family moved to Hendersonville, NC, where he attended Fruitland Baptist Bible College. During that time, God opened doors for him to preach and pastor different churches until March of 1990, when God led, he and his family, to New Testament Baptist Church of Jefferson. He faithfully served as pastor there for over 31 years until God called him home. A man with a true pastor’s heart, his church family became his heart and life, and he was deeply loved in return.
Preacher James was very thankful for all the preachers and friends that the Lord had allowed him to meet over the years through ministry and hobbies. He was an avid Central Eagles football fan, and for many years could be found supporting them in the front row of the stands. In his free time, he loved collecting, trading, and finding a deal on guns and knives. In his later years, Preacher James developed a love for art, and became a very talented artist. He would often gift his family and close friends with landscape pictures he had painted. Of all things enjoyed, his greatest passion was telling others about the saving grace of God found in the Lord Jesus.
In addition to his parents, Reverend Aldridge was also preceded in death by one son, Jimbo Aldridge.
Survivors include his devoted wife of 56 years, Sue Aldridge of the home, sons, Kenny (Lori Ann) Aldridge of McBee, SC, Mike (Kim) Aldridge of Jefferson, SC, and Pastor Steven (Crystal) Aldridge of Greenville, SC; daughter Brittany (Lem) Robertson of Jefferson, SC; grandchildren, Case (Kayla) Aldridge, Hannah Aldridge (Justin) Mooneyhan, Ashley (Justin) Aldridge, Jake Aldridge, Somer Diffenbach, Harleigh Diffenbach, Lydia Aldridge, Seth Aldridge, Haven Aldridge, and Asher Robertson; great-grandchildren, Haven, Easton, Kaydence, Jace, Cade, and Kennedy.
The family would like to express a special thank you to hospice nurse, Tonya, and the entire staff of Medical Services of America Hospice for the love and care shown to Preacher James and their family.
Memorials may be made to New Testament Baptist Church, c/o Sister Sue Aldridge, 5359 Eubanks Rd, Jefferson SC, 29718.
