“Ram Horn”
Mr. Thomas was born on October 2, 1939 in Cheraw, SC and entered into rest on November 4, 2020 at the age of 81. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date in the Patrick Cemetery.
Due to these challenging and uncertain times, the family respectfully requests no visitors at their homes and suggests sharing your condolences by phone, or on the funeral home tribute wall.
Mr. Thomas was the son of the late Richard Maurice Thomas, Sr. and Elizabeth Tolson Thomas McLain, and was a life-long resident of Patrick, SC. Richard served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps, 4th Battalion – 12th Regiment. He had many talents which led him into several trades that he excelled in.
He served a term on the Patrick Town Council and was a founding member of the Patrick Rescue Squad. He was also a member of the Chesterfield American Legion Post #74. Richard was noted for his good humor and many types of stews he cooked at Ingram Mill and these events were attended by many.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, listed above, and his brother, Russell Martin Thomas (#5).
Their mother, early in life, lovingly and playfully gave her children numbers thus the reasons for the numbers by their names. Richard of course was #1, and this tradition is still used today, and they still refer to themselves by their given numbers.
Survivors include his daughter, Sheila Ann Thomas of Cheraw, SC; son, Richard Maurice “Reese” Thomas, III of Patrick, SC; brothers, (#2) Phillip (Crista) Thomas of Indian Harbor Beach, FL, (#4) William Kenneth (Mattie) Thomas of Patrick, SC, and (#6) Steve (Jan) Thomas of Patrick, SC; sister, (#3) Peggie (Bubba) Gardner of Chesterfield, SC; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the Patrick Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 209, Patrick, SC 29584.
