Preacher Bobby was born December 21, 1958 in Monroe, NC a son of the late William Robert and Mary Phillips Cato. He was a member of the last graduating class of Pageland High School in 1976 and was also a U.S. Army veteran. Following his time in the military, he worked as a life insurance agent for over 15 years. In April of 1980, during a spring revival at High Point Baptist Church, Bro. Bobby was gloriously Born Again by the marvelous, amazing Grace of God. As he began to grow in his walk with the Lord, Bro. Bobby felt the Call of God upon his life and surrendered to preach the gospel on May 7, 1990 at Living Faith Baptist Church. He would go on to attend Carolina Bible College of Concord, NC.
A man who loved preaching the gospel consistently and passionately, Preacher Bobby accepted his first pastorate at Maple Grove Baptist Church of Weddington in April of 1994. God used him to establish and pastor the Canaan Baptist Church of Monroe in July of 1996, and after years of serving as an evangelist, Bro. Bobby accepted the call to Pastor the Almetta Baptist Church of Jefferson. One of his life-long favorite scriptures was John 3:16 and he spent his ministry telling men, women, boys, and girls about the Love of God that could change anyone and everyone’s life!
Preacher Bobby not only loved the Lord, but also his country, and family. He enjoyed keeping his yard in top-notch shape, playing golf, and grilling for his family. He was also an avid football fan. He will be fondly remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, and proud grandfather.
In addition to his parents, Preacher Bobby was also preceded in death by his brother, William Robert “Billy” Cato, Jr.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 47 years, Cindy Mills Cato of the home; children, Krystal “Kristy” Cato, and DeAnna “DeeBo” Cato both of Monroe, NC, and Alexandria “Allie” Cato of the home; grandchild, Braylee Cato; father-in-law, Woodrow Mills of Monroe, NC; son of the heart, Pastor Adam Craddock and family of Kannapolis, NC; his beloved yorkie, "Odie Bear," in addition to numerous nieces and nephews.
