Mr. Robert J. Funderburk, age 75, entered into rest on Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at his home. Funeral Services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, July 7, 2018 at Palmetto Baptist Church by Pastor Joey Polson and Rev. Ronald Thurman with burial to follow in the church cemetery with Masonic Rites. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Friday, July 6, 2018 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home.

Mr. Funderburk was born November 7, 1942 in Chesterfield County, SC a son of the late Basil and Christine Cassidy Funderburk. A faithful member of Palmetto Baptist Church, Robert was also a member and Past Master of the Ruby Masonic Lodge # 314. Following his graduation from Ruby High School, Mr. Funderburk began his working career with James Fabrics Plant and worked there for 12 years. In 1976, Robert opened his own business, Funderburk’s Wheel Service which he operated for nearly 30 years until his retirement in 2005. Active in his community, Mr. Funderburk served on the Fifth District County Council Seat for Chesterfield County for 10 years.

Mr. Funderburk was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend. He was also an avid hunter and member of the Winery Hunting Club.

In addition to his parents, Robert was also preceded in death by his daughter, Melissa “Missy” Funderburk Wallace; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Alice and Kermit Harrelson; brother-in-law, Gene Chappell; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Reid Harding Whittington and Linda Whittington; nephew, Aaron Whittington; and niece, Amy Best.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Barbara W. Funderburk of the home; daughters, Dena (Jerry) Gainey of Chesterfield, SC, Scarlet Moore and special friend, Matt Carpenter of Patrick, SC; son, Robert J. “Robbie” (Dawn) Funderburk, II of Ruby, SC; grandchildren, Travis (Lizzie) Rivers, Jennifer (Jason) Stafford both of Chesterfield, SC, Melissa Moore, Trent Moore both of Patrick, SC, and Robert Cody Funderburk of Ruby, SC; great grandchildren, Jase and Jenna Stafford, Reagan, Dexter, and Zoe Rivers all of Chesterfield, SC, and Leyton Bennett of Patrick, SC; sisters, Carolyn (Alfred) Tyner of Patrick, SC, Darlene (James) Miles of Jefferson, SC, Debi (McNair) Tornow of Beach Mountain, NC, and Sharon (Ed) Burr of Augusta, GA;  sisters-in-law, Mary (Odell) Shepard, Janette Chappell, Sue (Jerry) Southard; brothers-in-law, Ronnie (Jean) Whittington, and David Whittington; also numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
