Mr. Robert Paul Sellers, Jr. died peacefully at Cheraw Healthcare on Friday, October 6, 2017 at the age of 96. Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Sunday, October 8, 2017 at Hopewell Baptist Church by Rev. Phil Wyatt, Rev. Ronald Thurman, and Phillip Caulder Jr. with burial to follow in the Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 7, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home.
Mr. Paul, as he was so fondly known, was predeceased in death by Lily Frances Pate Sellers, his beloved wife of 73 years in October 2013. Born on January 10, 1921 in Chesterfield, Mr. Paul was the first son of Robert Paul, Sr. and Elizabeth Gaddy Sellers. He was predeceased by his brother, William David Sellers of Cheraw.
Mr. Paul is survived by sons; Robert Paul Sellers III, Donald R. (Barbara) Sellers of Chesterfield, SC; daughter, Frances Sellers Steen of Hartsville, SC; and a daughter-in-law, Nannie Lou Sellers of Chesterfield, SC, who was very faithful in overseeing his care. He was preceded in death by his second son, Edward A.(Ebbie) Sellers, and by son-in-law, Glynn D. Steen, daughter-in-law, Linda Rivers Sellers and by his infant grandson, Stephen Randolph Sellers. His family also includes seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; Chris (Anna) Sellers of Cheraw and son, Cody of the USAF at Charleston, SC; Paulette Evans and daughters, Danielle and Sara Beth Evans of Ruby, SC; Michael (Ryan) Steen and daughter Abigail (Abbey) of Darlington, SC; Stevenson ( Michelle) Sellers and children, RJ, and Stephanie Sellers (Taylor) Griggs and daughter, Paityn of Chesterfield, SC; Bryan (Crystal) Sellers and son Edward "Lex" of Jefferson, SC; Lou Anne (Travis) Williams and children; Grace Williams, Tyler Brigman and his son, Grady; Jacob (Caitlin) Williams and children, Braxton and Brody of Ruby, SC, and Amanda Sellers of Raleigh, NC.
Mr. Paul retired from J.P. Stevens after over 33 years of service but is best known by the 22 years of service with Piggly Wiggly until the age of 89. He loved people and never met a stranger.
He was a faithful and lifetime member of Hopewell Baptist Church in Chesterfield. He dedicated his life to serving in whatever capacity he was needed. By the age of 17, he had a job in the church, serving at one time as Superintendent of Sunday School, also as a Deacon, Greeter, and finally as Cemetery Coordinator. Mr. Paul was a member of the Chestefield Masonic Lodge 220 and although never serving in the military, he was very proud of his father, a WWI Veteran and his three sons who served in the Air Force, Navy, and Army. He was also an avid lover of baseball, especially the Atlanta Braves.
