Sarah Owen Shively

Mifflinburg, PA

Mrs. Sarah Owen Shively, age 94, entered into rest on Tuesday, November 20, 2018, at Rolling Hills Manor, Millmont, PA. A Celebration of Sarah’s life will be 5:00 PM Sunday, April 7, 2019 from the graveside at Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery by Rev. Jeff Gardner. The family will greet friends immediately following the service in the Shiloh United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.

Mrs. Shively was born June 5, 1924, in Chesterfield, South Carolina a daughter of the late James “Jim” and Ola Gardner Owen. She was a 1941 graduate of Chesterfield High School and a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church. Following her graduation, Sarah moved to Baltimore, MD to pursue a nursing career. While there, she met and married Kenneth L. Shively, and they soon relocated their family to Mifflinburg, PA. Sarah assisted her husband in the operation of K.L. Shively Appliance of Mifflinburg. When she was not helping her husband, she was known for her love of sewing and completed many alterations for the community. Mrs. Shively was also the owner and operator of Sarah’s Sewing Center and was a member of the Buffalo Valley Church of the Brethren in Mifflinburg, PA.

In addition to her parents, Sarah was also preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth L. Shively; two sisters, Bonnie Owen Rivers, and Dale Owen Lee; and one brother, James Raeburn Owen.

Survivors include her daughter, Mary L. Jones, of Mifflinburg, PA; son, Dennis E. Shively, Millmont, PA; brother and sister-in-law, Scott G. and Mary Frances Owen of Chesterfield, SC; and two grandsons, Matthew Jones and Michael Jones of Mifflinburg, PA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to a local hospice organization of one’s choice.
