Scott Gardner Owen

           Mr. Scott Gardner Owen, age 93, passed away peacefully on Tuesday Morning, April 9, 2024 at Springhill Assisted Living of Pageland with his wife of 73 years, Mary Frances by his side. A Celebration of Life Graveside Service with military honors will be 2:00 PM Saturday, April 13, 2024 at Chesterfield Cemetery officiated by Pastor Alisha Hansen and Reverend Jeff Gardner. The family will greet friends following the service at the cemetery.

Mr. Owen was born on January 20, 1931 in the Shiloh community of Chesterfield, SC to the late James Weldon and Ola Gardner Owen. He was a graduate of Chesterfield High School and a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War. Scott dedicated over 30 years to serving his community as a rural mail carrier with the USPS and was also the former owner and operator of Carquest Auto Parts.

A faithful member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, Mr. Owen enjoyed singing in the choir and actively participating in various other committees throughout the years. He was also a member and Past Master of the Chesterfield Masonic Lodge #220, as well as a 71-year member of the American Legion Post 74. His commitment extended to public service through multiple terms on the Chesterfield Town Council and past membership on the zoning committee.

In addition to his professional endeavors, Mr. Owen held a passion for sports, particularly golf, and found solace in activities such as reading, tending to his yard and flower gardens, and cherishing moments with his family.

          In addition to his parents, Mr. Owen was also preceded in death by his daughter, Susan Burch Owen; son-in-law, Chucky Wayne Crowley, Sr.; and all of his siblings, Sarah Owen Shively, James Raeburn Owen, Bonnie Jean Rivers, and Georgia Dale Lee.

Survived by his loving wife Mary Frances Burch Owen of 73 years; children John Scott Owen of Chesterfield, SC, Anne Owen (James "Jimbo") Howey of Lancaster, SC, Ellen Owen Crowley of Chesterfield; grandchildren Austin Scott (Jena) Owen, Dylan Preston Owen (Kinsley Lewis), John W. "Mac" (Jessi) McCormick Jr., Anna Howey (Shawn) Adcock, Chucky W. "C.J." Crowley Jr. (Madison Teal); and 8 great-grandchildren; along with generations of nieces and nephews.

The family extends their gratitude to the administration and staff of Springhill Assisted Living of Pageland and Gentiva Hospice of Chesterfield for their exceptional care and support provided to Mr. Scott and their family.
