Sergeant Major (Ret) Lewis Elbert McCright, age 91, entered into rest on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at his home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 4:00 PM Monday, November 13, 2017 from the Chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home by Pastor Chad Vick, Pastor Michael Parnell, and Pastor Allen Usher. The family will greet friends from 3:00 – 4:00 PM prior to the service at the chapel.

Mr. McCright was born May 18, 1926 in Baxley, GA a son of the late Leonard Albert and Lula Effie Reeves McCright. He was a U.S. Army Veteran with 30 years of loyal service to our country. His career included serving during the Korean War and the Vietnam Conflict, and retired as Sergeant Major. Following his military retirement, Mr. McCright worked with the S.C. Department of Corrections for 10 years. He enjoyed reading, working with plants, and spending time with his animals. Mr. McCright was of the Methodist faith.

In addition to his parents, Lewis was also preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Ann McCright; 2 sons, Lewis E. McCright, Jr. and Leonard Boyce McCright; and sisters, Inez McGill and Margie Freeman.

Survivors include his son, Mike (Lynne) McCright of Chesterfield, SC; daughter, Patricia Kay McCright of Columbia, SC; grandson, Damon (Kristy) McCright of Chesterfield, SC; great grandson, Brayden; 2 sisters, Mary (Tommy) Rivers of Williston, SC and Linda (Norman) Keefe of St. Matthews, SC.

The family would like to express their sincerest appreciation to Mr. McCright’s caregivers for their love and care for him the past few years, Melanie Griffith, Sandra Bennett, Eleanor Webb, Cindy Gibson, Sheila Hudley, Teresa Cassidy, Brenda Caulder, Eric Boykin, Shelly Catoe and the staff of Agape Hospice.
