Mrs. Shirley Ann Bacon Spencer, age 87, entered into rest on Tuesday, October 5, 2021. Graveside services will be 11:00 AM Thursday, October 7, 2021 at Evans-Robeson-Spencer Cemetery (located off Teal’s Mill Road, Chesterfield) by Pastor Alisha Hansen. The family will greet friends following the service at the cemetery.

Mrs. Spencer was born August 7, 1934 in Clyde, GA a daughter of the late Peyton Raleigh and Olive Gooden Bacon. She graduated from Richmond Hill High School, Richmond Hill, GA, and graduated from business school in Columbia, SC, where she met her husband. Mrs. Spencer retired in 1996 from the Chesterfield County School District with 27 years of service.

A faithful member of St. Paul United Methodist Church since moving to Chesterfield in 1969, Shirley was always doing for others; whether driving friends to the doctor, cooking meals for family and friends, or serving on the church bereavement committee, she was always happiest serving others. Of all things important in her life, none came before her family. She always sought to make them her priority and make certain they were “fed” well!

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Spencer was also preceded in death on April 10, 2002 by her beloved husband, William Osborne Spencer (whom she united in marriage to on November 23, 1952); brother, Charles William Bacon; and sister, Mary Bacon Ogle.

Survivors include her children, William O. “Billy” Spencer, Jr. (Connie); Mark E. Spencer (Carmen); and Lynne B. Spencer (Mike McCright) all of Chesterfield, SC; grandchildren, William O. Spencer, III of Cheyenne, WY, Sarah Spencer Haile (Paul) of Columbia, SC, and Mark Edward Spencer, Jr. of Columbia, SC; great grandchildren, Peyton Leigh Haile, and Sydney Maise Haile both of Columbia, SC; brothers, Peyton Raleigh Bacon, Jr. (Gail) of Savannah, GA, and Stephen Gregg Bacon (Mabel) of Tampa, FL.

The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to special friends, Donnie Rivers, and Lorraine Dixon; the staff and administration of Cheraw Healthcare, McLeod Health – Cheraw, and McLeod Hospice for the extraordinary care and love shown to Mrs. Shirley and their family.
