Sue Lee King Davis Harmon died Saturday, January 28, 2012, at the age of 100 years and l month. She was born December 29, 1911, to Henry Frank King, Sr. and Mary Etta "Mollie" Knight King and lived her entire life in Chesterfield. She was affectionately known as "Suey" to her family.
Sue Lee was married first to Acy Lee Davis and later to George L. "Pal" Harmon, Sr. Widowed the first time as a young adult with three small children, she became a cosmetologist to support her family and continued in that career until her retirement. She was one of the first women to own a business on Main Street in Chesterfield. Her shop, DaMond, was also the location of the first lending library in the town of Chesterfield.
Sue Lee was the oldest member of St. Paul United Methodist Church at the time of her death. She was a teacher in the Nursery Department for more than 25 years, a member of the Wesley Fellowship Class, and a member of the Wesleyan Service Guild. She also served as a Methodist Youth Fellowship counselor for many years.
Celebrating her life and surviving "Suey" are her children Richard King "Dicky" Davis, Donna Davis Hurst, and Acy Lee Davis all of Chesterfield; her sister and brother-in-law, Helen King Perry and Dr. Jerry B. Perry, and her sister, Johnnie King Long all of Chesterfield; her brother, Henry Frank King, Jr. of Salisbury, NC; her grandchildren Connie Hurst Jeffcoat (Alan) of Mount Pleasant, SC, Lou Davis Bohannon (Brian) of Wentzville, MO, Renee Davis Hutson (Tim) of Cheraw, SC, and Motsy Davis Hill (Tim) of Chesterfield; her great- grandchildren Hurst Jeffcoat, Faith Jeffcoat, and Mary Elizabeth Hutson, and Josh White; her step-son George L. Harmon, Jr. (Ann) of Athens, GA; her step-grandchildren, Scott Harmon (Leslie) and Mark Harmon; her step-great-grandchildren Emily Grace Harmon, Olivia Harmon, and Luke Harmon; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husbands, she was predeceased by her sisters, Lela King Carr, Julia King Hunter, Vivian King Adams, Bernice King; a brother, Dewey Foster King, Sr.; and a sister of the heart, Peggy Davis
A service of Death and Resurrection will be held at St. Paul United Methodist Church, Monday, January 30, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. Interment will follow in the Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be in the church Fellowship Hall from 1:30 - 2:45 p.m. The family requests that memorial gifts be made to St. Paul UMC, 305 W. Main Street, Chesterfield, SC 29709.
