Thomas "Tom" Cassidy

Chesterfield, SC

SFC (Ret.) Thomas "Tom" Franklin Cassidy, age 82, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on April 21, 2025. A graveside funeral service will be held at Westfield Creek Baptist Church Cemetery on Saturday, April 26, 2025 at 3:00 PM with full military honors, officiated by Pastor Doug Anderson, Pastor Jason Pope and Brent Taylor. 

Born on August 31, 1942, in Wadesboro, NC, Mr. Cassidy was the son of the late Boyd Beachum Cassidy and Sarah Alice Harrington Cassidy Tyson. He graduated from Wadesboro High School before enlisting in the United States Army in 1962. Mr. Cassidy dedicated 22 years of service to his country, prior to his retirement in 1984 after three tours in Vietnam. His exemplary military career was marked by numerous awards and commendations, including the National Defense Service Medal, the Silver Star, the Bronze Star Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, the Purple Heart, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Army Commendation Medal (1st Oak Leaf Cluster), the Air Medal, the Good Conduct Medal (7 awards), and the Meritorious Service Medal. among others. Mr. Cassidy enjoyed watching racing and sports shows, in addition to Fox News. He was also an avid Carolina Gamecocks fan.

Mr. Cassidy was a member of Westfield Creek Baptist Church. A man who loved his God, country, and family, Tom will always be remembered for his servant’s heart to others.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Cassidy was preceded in death by his stepfather, Samuel Tyson; sisters, Barabara Edwards and Linda Lowery.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Gail E. Gibson Cassidy; children, Boyd Franklin (Tammy) Cassidy of Chesterfield, SC; Tommy Dwayne (Pam) Cassidy of Hartsville, SC; Jeffrey Todd Cassidy of Inman, SC; grandchildren, Thomas D and Tyler Cassidy of Cheraw, SC; Taylor (Jordan) Sanner of Lugoff, SC; Makenzi Cassidy of Myrtle Beach, SC; Zayne Cassidy of Inman, SC; and great-grandchild, Xander Hutcherson; brother, William (Lisa) Bullard of Stanville, NC. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Westfield Creek Baptist Church, 316 Westfield Church Road, Cheraw, SC 29520.
