            Mrs. Vena O. McLain, age 95, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 26, 2023. Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Monday, August 28, 2023 at St. John Freewill Baptist Church by Reverend Steven McLain with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends from 2:00 – 3:00 PM Monday, prior to the service in the fellowship hall of the church.

          Mrs. McLain was born July 7, 1928 in Chesterfield County, SC a daughter of the late Lawrence and Ruth C. Odom, and wife of the late John “J.P.” McLain for 71 years. She was a long-time employee of B.C. Moore’s Department Store and a faithful member of St. John Freewill Baptist Church.

          In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. McLain was also preceded in death by two sisters, Lena Mae Tolson, and Pamela Huggins; brothers-in-law, Jokie Jenkins, Clyde Tolson, and Monroe Huggins; and son-in-law, Walter “Buck” Jordan, Jr.

          Survivors include one son, Cecil E. (Brenda Gayle) McLain of Patrick, SC; two daughters, Rachel (Robert) Jordan of Chesterfield, SC, and Gail Jordan of Wingate, NC; five grandchildren, Michael (JoAnne) McLain of Greenville, SC, Rev. Steven (Vicky) McLain of Spartanburg, SC, John Robert (Sherrill) Jordan of Stanfield, NC, Carrie (Jason Smith) Jordan of Monroe, NC, and Charlotte Jordan of Wingate, NC; seven great grandchildren, Eli McLain, Noah, Zachary, and Ashlyn McLain, Juleigh Vena and Robert Berry Jordan, and Justice Smith; one sister, Peggy Jenkins of Chesterfield, SC; special niece, Laura Dillard of Concord, NC; special nephew, Fred Tyner, Jr. of Rockwell, NC, and Tony Therrell of Kannapolis, NC; special friends, Terry Burr of Chesterfield, SC, and Pansy (Joe) Starnes of Patrick, SC; and many nieces, nephews, and friends of St. John Freewill Baptist Church and B.C. Moore’s.

          She will be missed by all who loved her!
