DECEASED: Mr. Vernon D. Davis, age 78, died Monday, August 17, 2009 at his home.

FUNERAL SERVICE: 3:00 PM Thursday, August 20, 2009 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel, Chesterfield, SC

INTERMENT: to follow in the Patrick Cemetery

VISITATION: 6:00 - 8:00pm, Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at Miller Rivers Caulder Funeral Home

HISTORY: Mr. Davis was born February 26, 1931 in Patrick, SC a son of the late Bruce and Sarah Nezzie Polson Davis. He was a former employee of Delta Mills and a retired employee of Galey & Lord. Mr. Davis was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict, and was a recipient of a Purple Heart. He was a member of the DAV, and the Cheraw Chapter of AA. Vernon was an avid fisherman, and was lovingly known as "Grouch". In addition to his parents, Vernon was preceded in death by a grandson, Joe Rollins, 1 brother, Tommy Davis, and by 3 sisters, Louise Ford, Jean Ford, and Lottie Oswald.

Wife of 55 years: Nellie Tucker Davis of the home
2 Daughters: Linda (Mike) Riley, and Lois (George) Rollins of Cheraw, SC
3 Grandchildren: Jessica (Carlos) Garces and Chris Tyner of Cheraw, SC, and Michael (Becky) Tyner of Scranton, SC
4 Great Grandchildren: Chloe, Bailey, and Dylan Tyner, and Rebecca Hudson
5 Brothers: James Davis, Charles (Linda) Davis, Ken (Pat) Davis, and Donnie Davis all of Cheraw, SC and Jakie (Anna) Davis of Georgetown, SC
1 Sister: Margaret (Parker) Cook of Fort Walden Beach, FL
