Born on September 22, 1956, in Monroe, NC, Mrs. Atkinson was the daughter of the late Richard and Carolyn Little Hathaway. Ginny embraced her role as “Nana” with pride and joy and was always willing to try anything with them. She also enjoyed spending time riding through the countryside with her husband, William, fondly referred to as her “Sweet William.” She also valued her friendships, often spending hours on the phone.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Atkinson was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Leianne Carolyn Carnes; her brothers, Ricky and Todd Hathaway; granddaughter, Ava Grace Bundrick; and son, Michael Carnes.
Survivors include her devoted husband of nearly 38 years, William Atkinson; children, Joseph (Casey) Carnes of Ruby, SC; Carrie (Philip) Bundrick of Pageland, SC; and Donnie Atkinson of NC. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Ryan (Briana) Carnes, Alex Carnes, Bethany Carnes, Grasyn Bundrick, Kaleb (Madason) Carnes, Chloe Carnes, and Aiden Bundrick; as well as great-grandchildren, Jackson, Isabella, Noah, Kasyn, Kodi, Asher, Lukas, Oakley, and Willow. Mrs. Atkinson is also survived by her sisters, Libby Hathaway Marsh of Chesterfield, SC, and Mandi (Jeff) Merriott of Charlotte, NC, along with her special niece, Hannah (Adam) Jordan, and their children, Waylon Springer and Luke Jordan.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Springhill Assisted Living and to VIA Health Hospice nurse, Sam, for the exceptional love and care provided to Mrs. Ginny.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Springhill Assisted Living, 514 Gum Street, Pageland, SC 29728.
