Wayne Gulledge

Wayne Eugene Gulledge, 78, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Easter Sunday, April 16, 2017, at his home after battling lung cancer for six years.

He was born Oct. 5, 1938 in Ruby, S.C., the son of the late Leon A. Gulledge, Sr. (Sweet) and Bessie Allen Gulledge. He retired from Southeastern Freight, Charlotte, NC. He was a member of Bethel Wesleyan Church in Kannapolis and recently attended Vision Baptist in Rockwell, NC. Wayne spent his life working on a farm growing up and enjoyed giving the vegetables away. He also loved coon hunting and deer hunting. He was a member of the Lions Club in the Odell Community and loved the fellowship with the club.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Lena Jane Carter Gulledge, a son, Kirk Eugene Gulledge, a grandson Jonathan Scott Gulledge and a brother, Leon Gulledge, Jr.

The funeral service will be at 1 p.m., Thursday, April 20, 2017 at Bethel Wesleyan Church, Kannapolis officiated by the Rev. Joe Harding and the Rev. Harry “Trooper” Ferguson. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday at Bethel Wesleyan Church, Kannapolis.

Survivors include his two daughters, Wendy Gulledge McManus and husband, Tim of Concord, and Tracey Gulledge Steger and husband, John of Rockwell, NC, a son, Scotty Gulledge and wife Rachel of Canton, MI. His grandchildren, Zachary Deloach and wife Carissa, Matthew Deloach and wife, Katharine, Hannah Deloach, Joshua Gulledge and wife Lyndsay, Caleb Gulledge and wife Julie, Tyler Treece and Jesse Treece. Two great-granddaughters, Alyssa Deloach and Peyton Deloach, a great-grandson, Blake Gulledge. His brother, Alan Gulledge and wife, Kathy of Ruby, S.C., his sister, Margaret Deese of Robbinsville, NC and his devoted and loving companion, Kay Johnson of Kannapolis and a host of aunts, uncles, in-laws, nieces, nephews, church family and friends who love him dearly.
