William Eugene Campbell

William Eugene Campbell, age 69, was welcomed into the gates of Heaven on the morning of August 25, 2024 with his family by his side.

Eugene was born September 11, 1954, to the late Nick Paulie Campbell, Sr. and Leo Davidson Campbell. The youngest of twelve children, Eugene grew up on the Campbell family homestead in Shiloh, where he spent his childhood learning to farm and enjoying life in the country. Eugene believed one of the greatest blessings of his life was being born the baby of twelve siblings. He spent his early days playing tricks on his siblings and teasing his sisters for a good laugh. Eugene graduated from Chesterfield High School in 1974.

Eugene was married to Terry Gulledge Campbell in June of 1977 and he loved her immensely every day for forty- seven years. Eugene and Terry built a life full of love that would make any man proud. Together, they raised two beautiful children in a home he built with his own two hands. Eugene adored his family, and he worked hard to provide for them. He knew the value of a hard day’s work and spent thirty-seven years dedicated to his craft at INA Bearing. Eugene learned a new kind of love when he welcomed his three grandsons into the world. He was their best friend and their biggest encourager. He never missed a soccer practice or a baseball game if he was able and would tell anyone who would listen how proud he was of them.

Eugene lived a life on Earth that was marked with honesty, integrity, and goodness. He was, above all, a family man. Eugene never took for granted an easy Saturday morning spent teaching his son the value of hard work and didn’t think twice about dropping everything to spend time with his daughter doing the things she loved. Eugene coached every youth sport his children ever showed an interest in and devoted countless years of leadership to the RAs at Hopewell Baptist Church where he never missed an opportunity to set off on an outdoor adventure.

Eugene gave everything he had to the people he loved. He was kind to everyone he met. He was generous with his time. His patience knew no bounds. He found happiness in the simple things. He found peace in nature. He was grateful for everything he was given. He loved fiercely, and the world was a richer, better place with him here. Eugene was a faithful man of God, and surely now he is enjoying the promise of life everlasting.

Eugene’s life was a testament to his love for his family, his dedication to his community, and his unwavering faith. He cherished every moment spent with his wife, his children, and his grandsons. Eugene’s spirit of kindness and devotion to those that he loved shone brightly in his active role in the lives of his children and their friends, and in the lives of his grandsons, who he loved tremendously.

Eugene's legacy of love, community, and faith will be remembered by his beloved wife, Terry Gulledge Campbell; his son, Caleb Campbell (Sarah); his daughter, Lorianna Campbell (Matt); his grandsons, Crawford, Davis, and William, all of Chesterfield; his brothers, J.B. Campbell of Chesterfield, Melvin Campbell of Elgin, Paulie (Francis) Campbell of Chesterfield, and Glenn (Brenda) Campbell of Hartsville; and his sisters, Janice Rivers of Chesterfield; Sue Holloman of Hartsville; and Linda (John) Prohaska of West Chester, Ohio. Eugene was preceded in death by his parents, named above, and his sisters, Patricia C. Teal; Mavis C. Thompson; Beatrice C. Burch; and Anita C. Quick.
