DECEASED: Mr. William "Bill" Lester Hunter died Saturday, October 16, 2010, at the Stewart Health Center in Charlotte at the age of 94. He was born July 26, 1916 in Salisbury, NC to the late Morgeory Brown Hunter and Lester Francis Hunter. He attended Henderson Elementary School for 2 years prior to the family moving to Salisbury RFD # 4 near Yadkin, NC. There he attended Yadkin Elementary School after which he attended Spencer High School, graduating in 4 years in 1933
After working at N.C. Finishing Company for one year, he entered N.C. State College, graduating in 4 years in 1938 with a B.S. in Textile Chemistry and Dyeing with High Honors.

Bill was an U.S. Army veteran and served in World War II in the European Theater from 1943 to 1945. During his military service, Bill earned the following military awards. The Silver Star with 1 bronze oak leaf cluster for heroic action, Bronze Star Medal with l bronze oak leaf cluster for heroic action, Purple Heart with 4 bronze oak leaf clusters, Meritorious Unit Citation, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 4 bronze service stars, World War II Victory Medal, Honorable Service Lapel Button WW II, and the American Defense service Medal.
Following his Military Career, he worked in the textile industry in positions from supervisor to V.P. of Dyeing and Finishing. He retired from Burlington Industries at age 65 with 28 years of service.

Bill and Julia traveled extensively in their retirement. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, and especially enjoyed working in his woodworking shop.
Bill and his wife Julia resided in Clarksburg, VA, where he served on the Mecklenburg County VA School Board for 8 years, was President of the PTA for 4 years, and served on the Vestry of St. Timothy's Episcopal Church for 8 years. Bill and Julia moved to the Cypress in Charlotte in 1999 to be closer to their children.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Julia King Hunter, a brother, Zebulon (Sam) Hunter, and by 3 sisters, Rebecca Hunter, Alice Hunter Rogers, and Frances Derickson.

He is survived by his daughter, Judy H. Robinson of Charlotte, NC, and two sons, William "Bill" F. Hunter and wife Lynn of Mooresville, NC and Henry L. Hunter and wife, Debbie of Calhoun, GA.; five grandchildren, Natalie Smith and husband Kevin, and Max Hunter and wife Lisa of Snoqualmie, WA, William "Will" M. Hunter and wife Ginny of Mooresville, NC, Elizabeth Sokol, and husband, Kenny of Cornelius, NC and Hunter Forstchen and husband Stephen of Apex, NC.; seven great grandchildren, Luke Hunter, Mia Hunter, Parker Forstchen, Katie Forstchen, Charlie Smith, Ike Smith, and Reagan Sokol.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel, Chesterfield, SC, on Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at 4:00 P.M. The Family will receive Friends immediately following the service. He will be buried in Chestnut Hills Cemetery in Salisbury, NC.

MEMORIAL SERVICE: 4:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel.

VISITATION: will immediately follow the service.

INTERMENT: will be in Chestnut Hills Cemetery in Salisbury, NC
