This obituary is being posted as a courtesy to the Windham family who were long-time residents of Chesterfield County. The Miller-Rivers-Caulder family extends their deepest condolences and sympathies to the Windham family. All online condolences will be forwarded to the family.

William Durham (Windy) Windham, 84, of Pawleys Island, Cheraw, and Columbia, SC, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, November 24th, 2019. He was born May 1, 1935 to the late Leah Taylor Windham and Alfred Windham.

Windy was a family man, a servant of others, and especially underprivileged children.  He founded Operation Santa Claus during his working years in Cheraw, SC and made Christmas a happy time for families in need. He loved helping others.

Windy was a business man who enjoyed golf, walking on the beach, watching football, and telling jokes.

He served in the US Marine Corps as a Sergeant and was honored to be chosen as a courier during his time of service.

Windy leaves behind his wife of 58 years, Judy Hayes Windham; a daughter, Lori Windham Short (Jim) of Lancaster, SC; a son, William Durham (Billy) Windham, Jr. (Bow) of Chesterfield, SC; grandsons, James McLeod Short, III, Forrest Brice Short (Tabitha), and Christopher Durham Short (Ronni) all of Lancaster, SC; a sister, Beverly Windham Jerald of Gilbert, SC; and brothers, Charles Alfred Windham of Conroe, TX, Franklin Delano Windham and Wilbur McMaster Windham of Columbia, SC.

He was preceded in death by his aforementioned parents, and sisters Juanita Windham Shealy and Bonnelyn Windham Hollis.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Burroughs Funeral Home, 3558 Old Kings Highway, Murrells Inlet, SC. The family will greet friends following the service, until 1:00PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to Amedisys Foundation, 391 Seaboard Street, Myrtle Beach, SC 29577 or any children’s charity of your choice.
