Willie Emogene "Gene" Edwards Ashcraft

          Mrs. Willie Emogene “Gene” Edwards Ashcraft, age 92, entered into rest on Wednesday, June 7, 2023. Graveside services will be 4:00 PM Sunday, June 11, 2023 at Gilboa United Methodist Church Cemetery by Keith Pate. The family will greet friends following the service at the cemetery.

          Mrs. Ashcraft was born August 11, 1930 in Union County, NC a daughter of the late Raymond Shue and Mary Loretta Helms Edwards. She was a retired employee of RockTenn and enjoyed working in her flower gardens and yard. Gene was a true people person who enjoyed talking and never met a stranger. She also enjoyed reading God’s word and had a special place in her heart for animals.

          In addition to her parents, Mrs. Ashcraft was also preceded in death by her husband, Odell Griffin Ashcraft; son, Tony Odell Ashcraft; brothers, Carson Edwards, and Boyce Edwards; and sons-in-law, Joe Harold Williams, and William Hartley “Bill” Tadlock.

          Survivors include her children, Peggy (Mel) Gryder, and Rebecca Williams both of Mt. Gilead, NC, Susan (Darrell) Leviner of Marshville, NC, Roger (Mona) Ashcraft of Anchorage, AK, and Ray (Lynn) Ashcraft of Mt. Croghan, SC; grandchildren, Regina (Andy) Martin of Marshville, NC, Amy (Jeff) Weddine of Indian Trail, NC, Ray Ashcraft of Idaho, Lori (Donnie Ray) Peyton, Ashley Leviner, and Dr. Joseph Leviner, II (Brent Haas) all of Marshville, NC, Kasey (Reggie) Ratliff, MacKenzie (Dwayne) Tucker, Kade Ashcraft all of Mt. Croghan, SC, Daniel (Lauren) Ashcraft of Anchorage, AK, and Dustin (Cassie) Ashcraft of Wasilla, AK; 23 great grandchildren; 1 great-great granddaughter; sisters, Joyce Ashcraft of Marshville, NC, and Shirley Marsh of Linville, NC; sisters-in-law, Delores Edwards of Marshville, NC, and Shirley Edwards of Monroe, NC; special friend, Don Ziegler of Mt. Gilead, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews.
