Willie Vaughn Gainey

Chesterfield, SC

Mrs. Willie Vaughn Gainey, age 87, entered into rest on Thursday, July 23, 2020 at NHC HealthCare, Garden City, SC after many years of battling Alzheimer's and Dementia. Funeral Services will be 3:00 PM Sunday, July 26, 2020 at David’s Grove Baptist Church by Pastor Chad Vick with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends following the committal service at the cemetery.

Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, social distancing is encouraged and the family requests all those in attendance please wear masks.

Mrs. Gainey was born December 19, 1932 in Chesterfield, SC, the daughter of the late Spencer and Ruby Adams Vaughn.  Mrs. Gainey was a former employee of Chesterfield Webbing and Gilead Manufacturing and retired after 25 years from Highland Industries in 1994.  She was a faithful member of David's Grove Baptist Church where she helped with the small children's groups and assisted with vacation bible school. She was also the treasurer for the cemetery committee and a member of the adult choir.

After retirement, Mrs. Gainey enjoyed being at home, cooking and visiting with neighbors and family.  If she had food, she shared it, or invited you to stay for a meal.  She always had a sweet smile and genuine love for others.  If her life were a song it would be "Others"...Others, yes, Lord, Others let this my motto be. Her last few years, as her sickness slowly progressed, were spent getting to watch her youngest grandchildren grow up and spending time with them daily. These were special times and brought her much happiness.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, the late James Lavin Gainey (father of Melissa G. Vick) and first husband, the late Robert Belk Adams (father of Virgil and Wayne Adams);  2 brothers, Clarence (Buff) Vaughn and Johnnie Vaughn; and 3 sisters, Ollie Rivers, Virginia Walters and Mary Lefler.

Survivors include her daughter, Melissa (Ted) Vick of Pawleys Island, SC; 2 Sons, Virgil (Rebekah) Adams of Wilkesboro, NC, and Wayne (Pam) Adams of Chesterfield, SC; 6 grandchildren, Carli Adams (Bryan) Hoofnagle, Daniel Belk Adams, Crista Adams (Jackson) King, Evan Vaughn Adams, twins: Willow Grace Vick and Laurel Faith Vick; and 3 great grandchildren, Eleanor Gloria King, Spencer Jackson King, and Drew Laurel Hoofnagle; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Avenue, 16th Floor, New York, NY 10001 (www.alzfdn.org)
